Spotted this Graphic Designer’s portfolio via behance. Mind blowing art here. Checkout his portfolio to see this guy’s work and you will thank me later. My favorite has to be the work he has done for Pepsi & Bahamas. Well done Jesse, great stuff.

Webmonkey Redesigned!

May 26th, 2008

Just stumbled upon an old favorite that I used to frequent alot a few years ago. Web Monkey is a web developer’s resource that has a ton of quality information relating to design and development.

It seems the design has been completely updated complete with a revised logo that absolutely rocks! I stopped using the site as far as I can remember because it basically got stale, No content for a long time and they’ve lost me.

Gonna dig through the site and now see what’s new. Check it out if you haven’t already.

JQuery Kicks Ass

May 24th, 2008

One thing that has been my Achilles’ heal for a long time now has been Javascript. I have a few books on the subject and have tried to learn the famous scripting language a few times but never really “got it”. The main reason I think is because the code is so uninspiring and there used to be a big stigma around Javascript a few years back, probably still even today that just put me off.

I have known about JQuery, the Write less do more, Javascript library for quite some time now, but never really got stuck in and tried to learn it. I just purchased the ebook on line a few days ago and started yesterday. So glad I got it and dived in. The syntax is really easy to learn if your’re used to coding CSS and guess what? It’s actually fun!

I have made a few little scripts already, very basic mind you, but still I’m happy with my progress. I just can’t get over how much confidence this little library has given me already. It’s an absolute joy to use and I’m looking forward delving deeper into JQuery. John Resig and all the JQuery team, I thank you!

A little bit about me

May 21st, 2008

I am a freelance web designer/developer located in the midlands, Ireland. I am interested in business, entrepreneurship, networking, S.E.O, marketing, keeping fit, boxing, reading, growing my own business and music

I went to college to study Networks & Software Systems in Donahies School as a PLC course for 2 years, but the course got discontinued after the first year because of low numbers. Fantastic teachers and a great atmosphere. I think I would like to go back and do a degree of some sort, maybe an MBA or Computer Science in a few years, but right now I have only one goal.

My biggest goal in life is to become a millionaire within a time frame that I can actually enjoy it. I work about 12 hours a day on my business but hope it will be worth it in the long run. One of my favorite quotes is the following: “Short term pain, Long term gain” – I truly believe this quote is accurate if applied to a driven and motivated person.

Due to working so much, and the nature of my job, I need to stay fit, I bought a heavy punch bag last year. I used to go boxing a few years ago and absolutely loved it! 45 minutes on the bag and I’m spent, who needs a GYM?
